Own Your Stuff / January Meetup

f your audience only lives on social, you don’t actually own it. You are only borrowing it.

Platforms change rules whenever they feel like, they control the algorithm and decide what gets seen, watched or heard. One update, and poof, you lost half of your audience. A domain name and a website is the one place, online, that can’t be de-ranked or shadow banned. It’s happened to all of us. When you own your domain name, you own the connection, and nobody can take it away.

Social platforms are great for discovery. They are not great as foundations. This is why it’s so important to own your stuff.

It’s not as difficult as you think! Start with owning your domain name. If you can order food delivered to your house, you can buy a domain name. Go over to [Cloudflare Registrar](Cloudflare Registrar | Domain Registration & Renewal | Cloudflare) or Hover, search for your show name and follow the onscreen instructions. It’s that simple.

Once you have your domain name, the sky is the limit! Most podcast hosts will allow you to point that domain at your page on their service. This is a great first step that goes a long way toward owning your brand.
